Just FYI

So today I had my first "clinic" appointment after my transplant. It's really just a follow up appointment. The doctors are pleased with my progress. I'm by far the youngest person there and probably one of the youngest liver recipients in my region. No one outside the hospital staff seems to understand that my liver was diseased since childhood and wasn't the result of drinking. Oh well. Anyway, I'm doing better everyday. I wanna keep you all in the loop and let you know I will return.

Just FYI

I wanna let my readers that are following my recovery know that I'm home from the hospital. I'm healing up nicely although obviously I have quite a ways to go. I still have the staples in but I'll soon have them out. I'm eating normally and the only real problem I have is horrible back pain. It's terrible but it's expected apparently. Anyway, I'll be drawing again soon and I'll finally get to use the new Wacom that's been collecting dust in my room since I got my transplant. In a few weeks time I'll be uploading again.

Just FYI

I've been going through tough times in my recovery. I got most of the tubes out, the last two are a drain in my side and an IV under my clavicle. I was told that for a few days the bathroom would be my biggest hurtle. They were right, I passed that hurtle today and felt terrible straight after. But after a second time I don't feel quite as bad. I'm doing better. Even though this is kinda tough it's well worth it.

Just FYI

I got my transplant! I'm happy but I'm in so much pain. The incision hurts, the tube that goes in my nose an then down to my stomach is irritating, and I am only allowed some ice chips and nothing else for the next few days. I'm just hoping I start to feel better sometime soon.

Just FYI

I got the call and I'm heading in for pre-admission testing. It's still not a guarantee but here's hoping.

Just FYI

I wanted to quickly update everyone this morning on the fact that I just got a call that they have an organ for me. They're doing tests on it and will know more by this evening. Nothing is set in stone but we'll see. I'll keep you all apprised on the situation as it develops.

Oh Happy Day!

So as you can tell I'm not on extended leave and did not get the organ I was waiting for. I titled this post "Oh Happy Day!" not because I got a transplant or rather didn't, but because I just ordered a Wacom Intuos4 Medium Tablet and it will be here in 2 days. I absolutely cannot wait to move back into digital art. I say "back into digital art" because I used to do lots of digital art. I took a year off to improve my drawing skill because I was unhappy with my abilities. I spent that year getting back to basics with mostly just a pencil and sketchbook. I'm in the middle of my 7th sketchbook and I'm finally happy with my basics enough that in addition to traditional work I feel comfortable getting back to digital work as well. Drawing with a mouse would be too difficult though and this Wacom tablet will help me more fluidly transfer my skill. Anyway, here are two pieces like usual.

Screamer 2

Screamer 3

These are two more pieces in my screamer series. I went through a large stretch of depression due to my chronic illness and whenever it hit me like a bag of hammers I drew things like this. I often felt like screaming but instead I drew these. I still draw them when I get depressed as they have become therapeutic although I draw them much less than I used to. I'm not as depressed and hardly feel the need. Anyway, I can't wait for my tablet to arrive. I'm so excited. Thanks for reading about my brainsplosion.

Just FYI

I have a quick update for today. I may have another long absence coming up. I'll know more by tonight but I'm second in line for the transplant I need and the hospital has me on standby. It's bittersweet really. I want this transplant so bad but I'm terrified. Anyway, if I don't update for a couple months I'm in the hospital recovering. Here's a bonus sketch.

Screamer 1

A quick gesture drawing using a soft pencil, probably 6B or 8B, of a person screaming. Being chronically ill can make you feel like screaming sometimes. I've never thought of it this way but this is one of a series of self portraits really. If I get a liver they'll soon turn into people smiling. Thanks for reading about my brainsplosion.

I'm Back

Sorry all for my recent absence. As most who have read my blog know I'm chronically ill. What most of you don't know is that I'm on several transplant lists. I recently had some complications with my spot on the list in the farther of the two regions I'm listed in as well as some medication substitutions. I had a couple of my meds changed because they have reduced side effects. Just this passed week I went to my second region of listing and had a horrible experience with traveling. My supposed one hour lay over was delayed due to storms until I was in the airport for six hours. Then my plane was in line on the runway for an hour and was eventually forced to take off heading south even though it was supposed to take off heading north west. Anyway, enough of my complaining and excuses. Here's a long overdue post with a bonus sketch to make up for lost time.

Horn Study

Demon

Coral Rock

Biker Cleavage

Blitz Helion

So here goes a quick description of each piece. The first is a horn study that I did in order to make some realistic looking horns on demons and other creatures. This was actually done chronologically after the second piece. I sketched the demon first (source image was from a magazine) and then I did a horn study. Coral Rock is a sketch I did while in Networking class. It was hard to listen to the professor drone on and having a sketchbook handy kept me awake. The source image came from the internet but I drew it without any of the people in it. The next piece was sketched and then inked. It was one off my first ink attempts and certainly one of my first figure attempts. I spent a lot of time on it. The last piece is the picture for the magic card Blitz Helion. I sketched and then used some really cheap colored pencils. With the quality and quantity colored pencils I have now it would come out a lot better. That's it for this post. Thanks for reading about my brainsplosion.
